Hello,

Apologies if these questions are a little noddy, but to be honest I have not got a clue. My v5 type r cut out whilst on a motorway slip road and after getting it recovered, I noticed that the fuel pump wasn't priming. A local auto electrician took a look at it and found that the wiring, pump and pump relay are all good, but it appears that the ecu isn't powering up. I've found an earth (a18) which appears to be fine. Should there be another and if so where? Also which wire/pin should supply the ecu with power.

I should add that Ive attempted to connect the laptop but it can't find a device.

Thanks for the wiring diagram, I've spent the last hour trying to find the fault but no success. I have noticed that the toucan is starting but isn't showing any readings (even volts).

Is the ecu pin for 12v power receiving power or not ? And likewise the power ground, is it a good ground ?

Toucan wont have any data if the ecu is not powered up and working.

Very likely to be an alarm issue, badly wired alarms route all the power through the alarm and it's not man enough for the job. Check slow blow fuses too, and earthing of engine to battery, and engine loom to engine (the ECU earths through the engine loom onto the inlet manifold.

Thank you for the advice and patients, however, with my complete lack of knowledge/understanding of auto electrics and work getting in the way of any spare time I should have had. I've got an auto electrician turning up tomorrow, so with a bit of luck it'll be back up and running by the time i get back from work.

If not it'll be put on a trailer and dropped of at a specialist.
