hi all, i need advice on which igniter to buy to go with AEM pencil coils and syvecs, been looking at either Haltech 15 Amp High Power Igniter or the AEM twin spark, which seem to have a high failure rate

AEM pencil coils are only for CDI use. I recommend M&W, Autronic, Efi Tech USA and MoTeC units.

Building DIY coil charging module is quite trivial, fex. you could use ISL9v3040 from Fairchild Semiconductor, which is 300mJ, 400V, N-Channel Ignition IGBT component. Capable of switching 17A current at 100 dec. C (21 A at 25 Dec. C). As what comes to casing, ones mileage may wary - cost effective solution is to empty 2 (for the 4 cyl) or 3 (for the 6 cyl) ordinary Bosch modules - if TO220 case component is chosen. TO-252 case version component is smaller, and four of them might go in to Bosch module internal space.

Look at getting some 1ZZFE Pencil coils as these have built in Amps and are good for over 200hp per cylinder.

If not do a search for Bosch 4 channel amps part no: 0 227 100 211
