Subaru A/C

Post by secure »

Hi

The latest firmware update gives flexibility for AC compressor settings but it seems the A/C shuts OFF/ON at idle occasionally regardless of battery voltage. I just set the delay times for FANS and A/C but it seems A/C shuts OFF randomly regardless of fans. Anyone experienced similar a/c problems?

The factory car will do this, as the A/C system has it's own temperature regulation in the evapourator (cooling bit). You need to check the status of the A/C system when it's doing this as it may not be the Syvecs at all. Also make sure the system has enough gas as low gas will cause the output from the demand switch to be cancelled.

Gas filled recently but it seems A/C shuts on/off more frequently than before. I think there is something wrong with the A/C but according to A/C specialist it works fine. When it shuts off AirConctl also gets OFF from the monitor so it is hard to understand if it is really triggered by Syvecs hidden control OR the compressor itself. Anyway, time will tell when the a/c fails =) It is not big problem right now or may be normal and my paranoia. Thanks.

The compressor is ONLY activated by the ECU. You turn the switch on in the car, if there is enough pressure in the system it will then send a signal to the ECU, which will raise the idle and perhaps turn on a fan and then turn on the compressor. If the gas is low, you can turn a/c on but the signal to the ECU will stay off, there should be a temperature sensor in the evaporator (the cold bit) which should also kill the A/C signal to the ECU if it gets too cold. SO if you're system is working and staying cold I would suspect it's working just fine, if it's not quite getting fully cold then you will probably find it's low on gas and maybe you have a leak.
