Getting someone out there isn't out of the question, however I agree it's not ideal, especially if you have some other niggles along the way.
So what I would recommend is that you strike up a relationship with a tuner that can talk you through stuff on the phone, do things remotely via your laptop over the net, trouble shoot with you etc. Don't expect all this come for free of course, but it should get you into a position to get the car mobile and then proceed to some running in.
If you have a schedule used for the loom or adaptor, that would allow an experienced tuner to craft a startup map, but you will need to confirm all sensors and outputs are working too.

just install the latest version, runs no problem.
However if you let your laptop sleep, when it wakes up it will have dropped the LAN port, so you need to log off and then back on, or restart the machine. The trick is not to let it go into standby when you close the screen, I change the power saving setup on my mapping laptop. If you close the Syvecs software first and manual go into standby it's not a problem.

Just download the latest version from the forum. This is something that should be checked for routinely as some firmware upgrades require it. There is no one specific version of the software as each component has it's own version.
And check the power situation, make sure you have done a hard reset of the machine then start the syvecs software to be sure.
