Thinking of using water or water/meth injection on a Radical with a 1340cc with a GTX3076 turbo running on 100% Ethanol VPX98 for Time attack.
I am not sure if i can go without using an intercooler for weight and packaging/complexity reasons and just go the water injection route for cooling purposes.
Using individual jets on each runner and maybe add another one or two jets after the compressor to further cool the intake charge.
Maybe this route will only work till a certain boost/power level?
Any ideas if this will work successfully?
Thanks

I would always try and fit the best cooler you can, whether that's A2A or A2W, whatever permits.

With a good fuel like ethanol, not sure if water will be a massive benefit though ?

Certainly Peter aka RiceRacing would be the man to speak to for a more complex setup.

I do simple on my own, and just inject , pump motor PWM controlled and with a pressure sensor in the line to determine system health and to base any fuel or timing corrections based of this line pressure. It creates a pretty good system failsafe and some flow control.

Again, Obviously Peter would make use of the Syvecs WI module for a more elaborate system with flow meter etc which can be far better optimised, especially for a port setup.

Also factor in how many laps you might be doing and quantity of water you might need to carry onboard to achieve this. Especially if no intercooler is in place and you will be using a lot more water.

I know on one of my cars, I can empty my 4L tank I think in around 2-3 laps. I can do those laps ok, but wouldn't do any more. And that's only using it above xx psi boost and in higher gears only. So not even all the time under load, and as I do have a fairly decent charge cooler, I'm only using a small-mid size single nozzle.

Thanks for reply.
Yes true, i always went that way and try to fit the best sized intercooler, but i was thinking of trying something different this time with lightness and less complicated pipework as the Radical is very tight and to fit an intercooler means blocking other important oil coolers/radiators.
As for quantity of water needed, my track sessions are only 15min each and will fabricate a new fuel tank of 25/30litres and have space to fit a 10litre water tank easily even bigger as my current fuel tank is 75 litres and currently fill it to half.
Main purpose of using the WI is to lower intake temps and hence cool the chamber/exhaust valves to safe levels.
I need to calculate the required water volume and see if i can manage to work with a 10litre tank for the 15min sessions

I would think 10L would be a struggle for such a long session. Of course, depends how often that is under load where you would be spraying

Even if A2A is difficult, maybe a A2W setup might be easier ?

Intercooling is fit and forget, no concerns about running out.

Of course, you can of course have different setups with water only in use on specified calibrations, and/or gear to try and make more efficient use of limited water.

If you have room, just a case of getting a bigger tank though if 10L isn't enough, but at least after running it you'll get some real world data on how much is needed.

Yeah i thought of that, triggering it on higher gears and loads which would help lowering consumption.

And my thinking was of using only water as both Latent heat of vaporization and specific heat capacity is nearly double to that of methanol.

Overall i would need time to find the exact jet size needed and considerable time on the dyno perfecting it and studying logs to perfect this setup but may be worth a try, and learn in the process and i like challenges too :D

But definitely if i go A2A that is a set and forget option which makes it practical during the hectic periods during time attack sessions which leaves me with more free time to check other important things and also less items that can fail.
