Escort Cosworth Crank and Cam setup

Post by CRacing »

Good morning Syvecs forum,

I am installing a LifeRacing F88RL ECU in an Escort Cosworth (YB engine), If you delete this message because it isn't a Syvecs ECU I underestand it.

I am triying to use the standard crank and cam pattern of the Escort Cosworth to work with this ECU that has 4 equal spaced teeth in the crank and 2 teeth in the cam. I sent attached the synclog. In the past I worked with a car that uses 4 equal spaced teeth in the crank but 1 tooth in the cam, this car is working well.

I am using the option of keyed by single cam in the crank and cam type, but the car doesn't syncronice, and it appears the message of critical cam error, I tryed to use the manual cam check list but I underestand that It doesn't work with the keyed by single cam option (I can't program the ECU with this option active). I see that the syncronization is lost always in the same point.

I think that the problem is that I have 2 teeth in the cam and there isn't any option in the crank and cam type that I see that it works with this pattern.

Is there any way of achieve that the LifeRacing ECU or any Syvecs ECU work with these crank and cam patterns without remove a tooth in the cam or install a missing tooth crank wheel?

Thank you very much in advance,

Best regards,

CRacing.

Do yourself a favour and fit a 36-1 on the crank. It's just better all round

4 teeth is just crap.

Not sure if it can be done or not though, I'd think it should be able to.. Have you tried the Facebook group ? It does get a bit more interest than here. Failing that email LR support, or contact some of the guys who could do it for a few quid.

a scope trace with crank, cam and cyl1 pressure is handy so all trigger points can be referenced properly.

Although this from bigturbo.co.uk gives some idea where cyl1 sits in relation to the triggers.

Thank you very much for your fast response Stevieturbo,

I am agree with you with the convenience of the 36-1 crank wheel but this customer wants to maintain the 4 crank teeth wheel if it is possible to install the stock ecu the fastest as possible and modify the minimum the engine appearance.

I contacted also with LR Support they helped me always a lot, in this moment I am waiting for its response.

I am going to write in the facebook group,

Have a nice day,

I get that, but 4 teeth is pretty poor.

I guess for a fast easy swap, get another distributor with a single tooth ( ie one tooth removed ) then that should allow you a fast return to standard, but give the ecu the single tooth it might need.

A dizzy swap would be easier than a crank pulley swap.

That said, you could probably add a 36-1 to the crank, and leave the 4 tooth setup in situ too ? SO both could be used as needed, just swap the crank sensor plug over.

But I'm sure you'll get a response on the Facebook page.

Thank you very very much Stievieturbo,

I will continue with the option of remove one tooth in the distributor to change one for another.

I also talked with LR Support a few minuts ago.

I hope achieved a good result,

Have a nice day,
