Haha that is true! I have a shift light which I like, it was always inaccurate (cheap ebay 15 quid job) so I gutted it and just used a spare ecu output to trigger instead, then decided I'd like to add another led as a second stage, that's where this came from, so really, I have a fully programmable 2 stage shift light for about 20 pounds. I am also putting the knock warning in there (as a different colour) as its actually in an awkward place on my dash cluster so unless I position my head right I can't notice it.
I'm a nightmare for messing around, my lass hates me.

Re: IGN outputs for led
Has anyone ever used a transistor off the ignition output to get a bit more switching power?
I was considering using a 2n2222a, 1k resistor in series with the ignition output to the base of the transistor and switching the ground to have some high current leds, about 100ma or so.
Transistor is good for 600ma and 300hz switching if needed
Anyone done this before?
Graeme

Re: IGN outputs for led
Internally amplified coils are switched by internal transistors.
But pretty sure it was already covered the outputs can handle a relay ok, so dont see why any sort of transistor would be an issue ?

Re: IGN outputs for led
This would work fine.
Re: IGN outputs for led
My transistor and resistor choice was my main concern
Thanks
