I've seen the guys in the US do similar stuff, albeit with BOV's, and most usually to vent air to reduce compressor surge but maintaining power and impeller speed

Just uploaded a new version of S6 code for you then Stevie which has Supercharge bypass control
Its only a small update as big release is coming soon but this is perfect for what you are talking about

I wasn't looking to use it myself, just found it interesting what they were doing. I've seen a few guys talk about doing the same to keep impeller speeds down on turbo setups using a BOV. The DBW aspect probably gives more scope for control though, although I'd think it would need a substantial motor to be able to handle high boost pressures
I just like the keep it simple approach most of the time.
