Tablet display

Been looking at options for displaying sensor outputs. Usual sort of stuff like toucan etc, but saw this and it got me thinking,

For £30 might be worth a try, Anyone tried something similar?

In the Apple world most hardware is fairly decent because only Cupertino makes them and so they have some measure of control over the quality of the hardware. In the Android world there is a vast range of hardware quality and this may manifest itself in the use of rather poor screens for example. Considering the use you intend I would want to have a look at any candidate device in sunlight and see how that screen looks, also I'de be curious about the viewing angles - it ain't no good if you can't see the thing from the driver or passenger seat but only from the rear, LOL

If the screen is OK then why not, it's cheap and cheerful and you won't be crying as much if it gets pinched, compared to an iPad mini!

thanks pat, yeah was one of my concerns. Im leanign towards the asus memopad. you can pick em up for £65 delivered for refurb which will be fine given the use,

fixing wise im pondering on some sort of mount that can be hidden in the central storage port, then use an adapted mount,

only other consideration is power, how can you wire in the charger?

If you are going for an Android tablet you need to make sure its running Android 4.4 KitKat as the current app requires this as the min version.

Not currently as many devices do not allow direct access to a UART, a quick search shows that for Android there is a serial API but it requires you to root the device to get direct access.

How much is the bluetooth adaptor? can't seem to find a price anywhere

A retina display(2048×1536) is around 60-80 usd.
A HDMI controller card for the display is 35 usd.
A capacitive Touch panel is around 30-60 usd.

You can build your own display and use any computer you want.

BUT a complete tablet may be a better option for some time.

yeah, can run it throught the asus when its sorted, then decide what plan of action is in long run.
