Gt4 using caldina cam and crank sensors starting problem.
Gt4 using caldina cam and crank sensors starting problem.
As above we've got a celica gt4 running a caldina engine including the caldina crank and cam sensors. We're having trouble getting it to run on the S6GP. We've had it started and in 720 sync but it backfires on starting and engine stops turning over like the ignition timing is too advanced. Also when we've had it running and it gets up to temp if you shut it of it will not start again until cold. Any help would be greatly appreciated as were banging our heads together now.
Re: Gt4 using caldina cam and crank sensors starting problem.
Sounds like its on the wrong Cam signal (G2) and wiring on wrong phase
My Suggestion to check is
Go to Scal - DEVICE - CONNECT - hit OK - STARTING - MiNIUM ENGINE SPEED FOR 720 --- Set this at 9000rpm to stop it going into 720 and see if it starts ok then...

If it does then what next? Thanks for the help
Re: Gt4 using caldina cam and crank sensors starting problem.
Get sync log
pull plugs
Unplug injectors (unless you want a fire)
Use timing light to check base timing on cranking, if using an adjustable light make sure it's set to zero.
Base timing may need adjusting or you are using the wrong edge direction for the sensor.
I wrote a detailed description of using the manual cam checklist which also includes info on determining phase. But essentially if it goes 720 in the wrong phase it will simply not run, so if it kicks back it suggests the timing is way out.
