Gearbox Control option?
Gearbox Control option?
What exactly is included in the S8 and S12 gearbox control option? Seems like all the parameters are included in the software already.
Re: Gearbox Control option?
The option is for the G tag on the ecu, which enables the gearbox control features

Re: Gearbox Control option?
More specifically, the gearbox control features relate to paddle shift. Without this feature set you can still interface a sequential box to the ECU, and you can expect to implement gear cut and blip, including closed loop control of the shift based on sequential barrel position, but you would still be pulling on the gear lever manually (or using a separate shifter that itself is not controlled by the ECU). With the gearbox control option, the ECU can take over the duties of shifting the gears, actuating a number of solenoids to control air shift, based on driver demand as indicated to the ECU by means of shift request inputs.
One disadvantage of manual control is that there is nothing that can be done to prevent engine damage if the driver decides to shift down to many gears thus causing an over-rev. Yes, it is possible to try to prevent the shift by refusing to enact a blip, but ultimately it is an attempt to prevent the mechanism doing what the driver is asserting. When the ECU takes full control of the gearbox it can veto the request and not even try to perform the shift, knowing that it could result in damage. Likewise an up shift could be vetoed based on the post-shift RPM being out of the power band.
Hope this helps,
Pat.

Re: Gearbox Control option?
would be great if a "help video" of setting up paddle shift was available. like the gear cut/blip video. or a fully configured base map with it all set up as a start point was available. there is alot of tables to populate.
just a starting point of having a tune from a car running the system in closed loop would be a great help. (iv asked via email a number of times to no end)
