R34GTR - replacement trigger kit and S6GP compatibility

Post by WUZ »

Looking to get a Cam Sensor kit installed onto my R34 GTR Skyline and I have an S6GP with Wiring Harnesss ready to go into the car.

Issue is that the OEM CAS (Cam Angle Senssor) on the RB26 gets very inaccurate at high revs (120 or so trigger wheel apparently?), the question I have to ask in terms of the compatibility of the Cam Trigger Sensor Kit I have and the S6Gp is:

"Does the ECU support direct spark and sequential injection with a 24 minus 1 trigger on the cam?"

If you haven't figured it out by now, Mechanics is my strong point, not electrics

Need to know if this will work on the Syvecs or if I need to spend more money on a different kit that works on the Syvecs S6GP.

Thanks,

Russell

Short answer is yes it will support it.
Long answer is you dont want to run it cause its going to limit the timing you can run at higher rpm due to the inaccuracy of the timing belt, and this is shown if you log the rpm at a high rate and check the derivative of it, its quite unstable, do a log at 1 atmosphere to 8 k rpm and its shockingly bad. End result is you miss out on a chunk of power and have engine knock as well.
Buy a crank speed and position wheel 36-1 (works well) that bolts directly to the crankshaft, and leave the exhaust cam sensor to set the phase only, you will be surprised how much harder you can run the engine and safer as well.

I think MGT and others sell crank wheel kits...look into those, then you can use the existing cam trigger for phase ID as it is less critical anyway.

It is a strange thing when engine makers decide to take critical info via a belt !

I'm sure they'd also be able to advise of any Cal changes to suit their kit. But the ecu can do it no problem.
