2008 Subaru does not start

Post by west_minist »

Dear All:

I am running the S6GP PnP kit for the 2008 Subaru WRX/STI Hatchback.

When you turn the car on, the ECT gauge is high. When you try to start nothing.

Any idea what the issue can be?

Some info might help.

When you say nothing, what do you mean ?

No power, no starter, no engine, no what ?

No start. The car uses a clutch switch to start. It is a key system and not push button.

No power to the starting motor.

When the ignition is turned on, the fuel pump is primed

I had some issues with the harness, but sorted it out and re assigned the assignments in their correct locations.

While I wait for them, I will review the service manual for the starting sequence in conjunction with the ecu.

Is the CAN bridge present and programmed correctly? If supplied by Syvecs it should be, but if second hand it could be missing or the wrong bridge code present perhaps?

I've never done one with a Syvecs, but I did have issue with another brand ecu and keyless start. ( JDM model )

I did query Pat about the Syvecs version but at the time the customer didnt want to spend that sort of money.

Some comments from the email query at the time in case they are relevant.

"The normal way it works on a Syvecs is
that the starter will turn if you press the clutch within 30 seconds of
powering up the ECU, so long as the engine is stopped. If the engine
stalls then the 30 second timer is reset so it will start again. "

As I dont see a clutch input on your schedule there, I presume it must receive that via CAN, or is the starting a car feature, rather than the ecu feature somehow ?

He did mention on one car they re-wired so the push button was required to start the car.

But he would need to offer any detail around that

Yes. it is supposed to be CAN 2.0.

We want to use the Syvecs to control everything, including the DCCD. So the ability to pick up the G, yaw and Speed sensors were critical.

I review the service manual and I really do not see how the Clutch comes into play, except a trigger to the OEM ECU as a logic input condition for starting.

What is or maybe concerning, the ECT gauge on the dash reads high like when the car is in flashing mode when performing tuning of the OEM ECU. So some condition is not being met.

The CAN communication is all new to me and were and what to look for when using EMS is beyond me at this point for changes to be made.

I have another issue where the Lambda is not reading either, so I hope to have this all sorted soon with them. Lol I am all out of I/O on the S6GP.

One this that I noticed, when I was unplugging the ecu to return to OEM, the plug with the SSM communication (Connector B on Syvecs doc) came out. did not clip in it seems. My daughter came down sick so i could not stay to test.

The reason I asked about the CAN bridge is that I have a vague recollection that if the CAN is not setup right, then the ECT reading weirdly is one of the symptoms.

Have you been provided with a base map that includes the CAN datastream setup required for the hatch PnP kit?
