Boost control issues

Post by Motoka »

Hi I have a 99 type r with 2.35 cbd, V7 AVCS heads, FMIC and brand new genuine GT3582 0.82 with billet 6 blade wheel fitted and VSR balanced by a reputable turbo specialist. The turbo has just been fitted, tial 38mm EWG and 3 port mac valve solenoid.

I am having real problems getting the boost profile steady. My target is around 1.5 bar until I can get a steady response. I have tried numerous combinations of base WG, PD and Integrator but the boost is massively erratic and does not respond as one would expect to adjustment of PID (I have mapped a non billet GT35R on my previous car and had no problems). I have tried plumbing the EWG so both ports are connected and then the bottom port are hooked up to the 3 port but it persists.

The compressor cover does not have anti surge ports so I am wondering if perhaps surge could be the problem? It would seem unlikely given the boost level and the rpm it is taking place i.e. 5000-7000 rpm but I would like to rule it out.

I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Cheers

I got to the bottom of this. With the new turbo I had connected the MAP sensor to the outlet on the driver side of the inlet manifold on the runner for cylinder 3. I reconnected it to an outlet on the top of center of the inlet manifold and the boost level is now rock solid. :-)
