help for starting

Post by jonnyc »

hi,
im pretty new to all this.....

but my real bug bear with the syvecs (i have an s6) is the 720sync lark, couldnt it be set to start at 360, and the data then selected once the engine had fired and put into effect onc its running? as my starter and small race battery doesn't like it (fine on the std ecu )

(maybe i am missing somthing, but it seems to run on the other sync, just not all the features are running im told?)

just a thought as i find it annoying - so do many i talk to and it would be a great little upgrade if possible
thanks

I know what you mean but it's not quite accurate.

It will start in 360 sync, however on the EVO trigger pattern it will need to do up to 4 revolutions to hit 360 sync as it does a second check of the cam sensor to ensure it's synced properly. The easy way to fix this is to change the trigger plate for a 18-2 wheel (18t rather than 36 due to sensor speed of response) which can be made, then it can be set to sync360 in less than a turn.

Did you get the .cal file I sent you btw?

Is it easy to change the trigger plate, and is it something readily available?

On an EVO its quite easy, Subaru is quite difficult, but a newage subaru doesn't have the same sort of problem and should sync up in about a turn or so.

Not in my (limited!) experience - a good 3 or 4 seconds of churning, hot or cold, before it fires.

Is that the time it takes to start or the time it takes to sync?

I think it may need 2-3 turns thinking about it, basically enough to see the cam sensor twice, but it's certainly much faster on a newage. At 120rpm, 2 turns is only 1 second so not bad.

The trigger wheel on an EVO is pretty much a flat disc, at least simple enough to be made quite easily.

How will you know when the starter was engaged? It's obvious enough but just remember that there is no switched input to signify the start of cranking!

I have done this swap (G10<G11) on my second timing belt change at service with the suggestions here.
G10 trigger was needing 3-4 turn to start
I have to drive back to home with 8-9 AFR.(no laptop atm)
I parked the car and its been over 3 months since the is not starting again :D
I didn't expect to see this much of changes.
All of my maps need to be re-tuned now.
G11 still needs 3 turns to have the engine running.
Probably I have fouled the spark plugs and the car needs a retune.
I am lazy enough to do calibrations again.
What I am gonna do is to switch back to G10 and skip remapping stuff ))

When I checked the logs i saw Long tooth gap error so I thought it was calibration fault but probably a fouled spark plugs. will see this next week...
